Peace Vigil, Thursdays, 12:00 Noon to 1:00 PM, San Francisco Federal Building

Join a weekly peace vigil protesting the current war in Iraq sponsored by BPF and Quaker Witness for Peace and Justice. BPF members in San Francisco have maintained a meditation vigil since the first week of the latest war in Iraq. Our reasons for continuing the vigil are set out in "Isn't the War Over?" A Discussion Paper on Continuing the San Francisco Vigil . Join us at Golden Gate and Larkin in front of San Francisco's Federal Building for periods of informal sitting or standing meditation. BPF contact person: Chris Wilson, (415) 752-1748, or chriswilson2000@earthlink.net. Quaker witness websites: www.sfquakers.org, www.afsc.org.
Come for all or part of the daily vigil. Vigil held rain or shine. All are welcome.

Friday Noon Meditation Vigil, UC Berkeley West Gate

Join us at University & Oxford in Berkeley for a weekly meditation vigil; this is an ongoing vigil that began shortly after the beginning of the bombing in Afghanistan last year. We usually have a short period of sitting meditation and then break into small groups to talk about feelings that have arisen as a result of recent events. We close with a dedication of merit to all those who suffer from our wars. We hope you will join us.

Any activity posted on this web site that may result in civil disobedience is subject to the following policy. Civil disobedience will be conducted with a spiritual posture of respectfulness, in line with the Fellowship of Reconciliation Pledge of Resistance. All who commit civil disobedience agree to the following guidelines:

1. Our attitude will be one of openness and respect toward all we encounter in our actions.
2. We will use no violence, verbal or physical, toward any person.
3. We will not destroy or damage any property.
4. We will carry no weapons.
5. We will not bring any drugs or alcohol, other than for medicinal purposes.
6. We will not run or resist arrest; we will remain accountable for our actions as a means of furthering our witness to the injustice in question.
