About the 2006 BPF Membership Gathering
The gathering will begin with dinner on Thursday evening, June 22, and end with lunch on Sunday, June 25. Click here to see the tentative schedule for the Gathering While it is preferable that participants come to all four days, it is possible to attend fewer days. We ask that you come for at least one full day.
Goals for this year's gathering include:
- Offer an opportunity to network and build our socially engaged Buddhist sangha.
- Help us find a common vocabulary: What does it mean to be a socially engaged Buddhist? to be a member of BPF? Why do we feel drawn to be part of something called “Buddhist Peace Fellowship”?
- Build our wisdom, compassion, and skillful means through workshops on:
- Issue areas: prison dharma, engaging with and transforming racism and other institutionalized oppressions, militarism, more
- facilitation skills, creating create a dharma-based social change campaign, more
- Best practices and strategies for BPF chapter outreach
- How to create a values-based fundraising strategy for BPF chapters and others
- and more...
If you have other questions about the gathering that aren't answered on this web page, please write to gathering@bpf.org. We hope to see you at Garrison!

Registration Costs
In partnership with the Garrison Institute, BPF has tried to keep these rates for this gathering as affordable as possible. The rates shown below cover only the cost of lodging and food. The registration fee for current BPF members is the cost to cover this lodging/food fee, as shown below. Non-BPF members will be requested to pay an additional $10/day, with the fee to be collected upon registration at Garrison.
During the gathering, everyone will be offered an opportunity to make a gift of dana to BPF to help cover other expenses related to the event, and to support our ongoing work for peace and justice.
Your gift will enable members to attend this gathering who would not otherwise be able to come (under "Specify Gift," choose "Scholarship Fund-June Meeting")
Nightly room rates, which include three delicious vegetarian meals a day--see chart below. To determine your registration cost, multiply the number of nights you plan to stay by the rate for your preferred accommodation. If you plan to stay for the whole retreat (June 22-25), multiply the nightly rate for your preferred accommodation by 3.

Please note that the cost of your lodging and food can be slightly reduced if you take on a "house job." Please see the registration form and contact the Garrison registrar for more information.

Accessibility
Our intention is for this event to be accessible to a diverse group of people. We want to create a welcoming environment for everyone to enjoy the gathering, including those of us with physical disabilities. The first floor of the Garrison Institute, where all sessions will be held, is wheelchair-accessible.
If you have other special needs (e.g. sign language interpretation, etc) please indicate these on the back of the registration form.
Fifteen percent of the U.S. population is chemically sensitive, and we want our gathering to welcome people who are part of this growing group. Therefore we ask all attendees to refrain completely from using all scented products, including hair, body, and laundry products that contain artificial and natural scents, as well as essential oils and incense. Please refer to this list for fragrance-free alternatives that you can use for the duration of our time together.

Location

The BPF membership gathering will take place at the Garrison Institute, located about an hour north of New York City, along the Hudson River. We have chosen Garrison because of its commitment to hosting organizations who work in the intersection of contemplation and social change, and because of its proximity to the major metropolitan areas of the U.S. East Coast.
The first floor of the Garrison Institute, where all sessions will be held, is wheelchair accessible, and there are limited accessible lodging accommodations on that floor. Please contact Garrison for more information.
Important Note:
Please note that 15% percent of the U.S. population is chemically sensitive, and we want our gathering to welcome people who are part of this growing group. Therefore we ask all attendees to refrain from using all scented products, including hair, body, and laundry products that contain artificial and natural scents, as well as essential oils and incense. Please refer to this list for fragrance-free alternatives that you can use for the duration of our time together. Thank you in advance for your mindfulness of this issue and for helping to create a welcoming sangha for all of us.
