Hosted by the Center for International Conflict Resolution at Columbia University, world-renowned Buddhist teacher Pema Chödrön will conduct a weekend seminar on how to remain effective and compassionate in situations of intense conflict

and chaos.

Hailed by O Magazine as “one of the wisest women living in the world,” Pema, accompanied by a team of distinguished mentors and leaders in human rights will explore the roots of aggression in the human heart and the antidotes for peace. She will present practices that enable us to transform our personal lives and the troubled world in which we live.

The weekend will include talks by Pema Chödrön and exercises in presence and deep listening. Trained mentors will give instruction in mindfulness practice and lead small group discussions. The practices for finding peace in oneself can be used

as the means for transforming larger conflicts and for dealing with the personal chaos and hopelessness that many people experience in the face of increasing aggression in the world.  The seminar will be followed by the inauguration of a year-long mentorship program for people working in organizations and in the field, applying contemplative practice in situations of extreme danger and stress. “We are always at a crossroads, moment by moment. We can choose to open the wound further,

creating more suffering for ourselves and others, or we can choose to heal the wound.” -- Pema Chödrön, author of “Practicing Peace in Times of War”
