Actions You Can Take Part In
Listening Project
BPF members and staff
have been conducting listening projects since September 11.
They spend two hours at public plazas, transportation stations
and shopping malls with a sign that says "What does the
American flag mean to you?" The intention is to be a
neighbor to neighbors, to create a safe place for reflection,
to listen non-judgmentally to as diverse a range of opinions
as possible. The motivation is to learn and to open compassionately
to the feelings the flag arouses at this time in our history.
Although the intention is not to debate or polarize, the listeners
do ask such questions as:
- What is the best
way for justice to happen?
- Why do you think
we were targeted on September 11?
- What concerns do
you have about the war?
- Can you think of
any nonviolent solutions to the situation?
BPF invites others to follow this small but accessible and
important effort for peace.
