Matt Jeschke

Matt began practicing Zen at Green Gulch Farm / San Francisco Zen Center (SFZC) in 1994, after studying comparative religion at Reed College, and received lay ordination from Zoketsu Norman Fischer while practicing at SFZC.  He spent six years as a resident practitioner at Green Gulch, Tassajara, and Crestone Mountain Zen Center.  Both during and after this time, he served on SFZC’s Ethics and Reconciliation Council and on the Board of Directors of SFZC, where he served as vice-chair and chair.

After leaving SFZC, he worked with Business for Social Responsibility, a non-profit organization based in
San Francisco, where he advised companies on their social and environmental practices.  In 2007, he began to work with Rio Tinto, a global mining company, on their engagement with communities near their mining and exploration operations.  He lives with his wife Suzanne (who he met at Green Gulch) and their daughters, Ruby, age 5, and Sophia, age 4, and practices at Big Mind Zen Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
